The following is a selected list of recent Accessibility Workshops developed and/or presented by Alpha One Staff:

Maine Rural Development Housing Presentation

Presentation to property managers and owners on State and Federal regulations that affect existing family and elderly housing projects throughout the State of Maine.

Higgins Beach Committee, Scarborough, Me.

ADA Title II workshop with the Higgins Beach Ad Hoc Committee on mandated compliance issues surrounding the re-development and improvements to the Higgins Beach Area in Scarborough, Maine.

Maine CSI Chapter Presentation

Presentation on the incorporation of ADAAG into contract documents and specifically project specifications. The workshop focused on the pitfalls of non-compliance during the construction phase of projects due to unfamiliarity of current accessibility regulations and design guidelines by contractors and/or construction inspectors. Reviewed various suggestions that Contractors, Architects, and Specifiers can implement to minimize costly oversights during construction that seem to go un-noticed until final, punch list, or warranty inspections.

Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Me.

Presentation to management and physical plant engineering staff on ADA Title III compliance requirements and phased campus-wide barrier removal strategies to increase physical access to various buildings and facilities at the Jackson Laboratory.

Maine Women's Fund / ME Family Crisis Centers

Disability Awareness and Accessibility Workshop for Family Crisis Staff to identify disability related issues and requirements [State and Federal] applicable to crisis shelters across the State of Maine. Workshop(s) focus on disability awareness, access to community resources, access to shelter programs, and physical access to shelter facilities [workshop developed; not yet scheduled].

ME Code Enforcement Training and Certification Program Workshops, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999

Curriculum development and statewide two-day workshops to 350 code enforcement officials and building inspectors on accessibility related regulations and design standards that apply to project design and construction in the State of Maine. Topics covered include enforcement policy and newly enacted Maine accessibility regulations. Other topics presented included ADA Title 2 requirements affecting Maine municipalities, new NFPA-101 changes that affect accessibility, and recent / upcoming regulatory changes to the ADA that affect Maine accessibility regulations. The workshops are designed to train code enforcement officials in accessibility related regulations as part of the mandatory statewide training and certification program developed by the Maine State Planning Office.
