The following is a list of Historic Properties for which Alpha One has provided Access Design Consultations

Cumston Hall, Monmouth, Maine

Limited scope accessibility evaluation and recommendations for providing independent entry and access to second floor auditorium and theater space. The survey and report developed were used for funding acquisition for accessibility improvements. Budget estimates were also provided.

Paris Public Library, South Paris, Maine

Site and building survey and recommendations for immediate and long range barrier removal strategies at the national register listed Paris Public Library. A suggested transition plan with budget estimates was also developed.

Castle Tucker, Wiscasset, Maine

Site, building, and program accessibility study and recommendations for providing physical and programmatic access to this Georgian mansion. The house and attached carriage barn are seasonally open to the public for tours of the original interior and furnishings of the house and barn.

Baxter Hall at Mackworth Island, Falmouth, Maine

Accessibility survey and evaluation for providing independent access to first floor level spaces of Baxter Hall, owned / operated by the Baxter School for the Deaf.

Maine Historical Library and Longfellow House, Portland, Maine

Site, building, and program access study and recommendations for improvements to physical and programmatic access to both of these national register landmarks; owned and operated by the Maine Historical Society.

Peabody House, Portland, Maine

Accessibility evaluation and consultation for the proposed renovation of the Peabody House, a long term residential housing facility for six persons in the advanced stages of the HIV disease and at least one staff person. The site and structure are located within a local historic district of Portland, Maine. The completed project was featured in an Alpha One / Made in Maine public television program in 1995.

Loring House, Portland, Maine

Accessibility survey and recommendations for Loring House, offices of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine. The site and building are within a local historical district in Portland, Maine.

Ocean Park, Old Orchard Beach, Maine

Preliminary on-site observations and recommendations for improving parking and access to three historic structures on the Ocean Park campus, all National Register listed properties.

Victoria Mansion, Portland, Maine

Site, building, and program accessibility survey and recommendations for improving physical and programmatic access to the Victoria Mansion and developing a barrier removal plan. Also consulted with two preservationists on proposed site improvements and rear lift access at the mansion.

Portland Observatory, Portland, Maine

Site & structure survey, plan & specifications review, and recommendations for the restoration & incorporation of barrier-free design at the landmark Portland Observatory on Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine.

North Yarmouth Academy, Yarmouth, Maine

Campus-wide accessibility survey and evaluation of site conditions and nine academic related structures including three historic properties on campus...the David Shepley House [c.1841], Russell Hall [c.1841], and Academy Hall [c.1848].

Harbor Park, Camden, Maine

Plan review and recommendations for the modification & incorporation of barrier-free design at Harbor Park on Main Street in Camden, Maine designed by Frederick Law Olmstead.

Rackleff Block, Portland, Maine

Site and building evaluation of local historic business district multi-story commercial building scheduled for major restoration and renovation. Services also included review and recommendations for proposed structural and use changes as represented on preliminary design documents.

Ingraham House, Portland, Maine

Site and building evaluation and new accessible entrance recommendations for Goodwill Industries' Group Home at Ingraham House on High Street, in one of Portland's Historic Districts. Services to also include ramp / entrance design and specifications for bidding and construction permit acquisition.

Spindleworks, Brunswick, Maine

Accessible entrance and restroom design documents for local non-profit business located within one of Brunswick's historic business districts. Design and specification's provided for acquisition of local approvals, competitive bidding, and construction.

High Seas, Bar Harbor, Maine

Survey, evaluation, & recommendations for access improvements to historic turn-of-the century three story home on the cliffs of Bar Harbor, now used by Jackson Lab as a conference center.

Wilde Memorial Chapel, Portland, Maine

Accessibility consultation to provide grade access to the main level of the chapel with minimal visual impact and without threatening the existing historical character and integrity of the structure. Consultation performed with the Maine Historic Preservation Commission and the City of Portland.

North Yarmouth Meeting House, Yarmouth, Maine

Access design and plan review services for new entrance ramps and accessible restroom facilities at a National Register Listed Property. Due to the historic prominence and siting of the building, temporary ramps were used to provide access to the entry vestibule and worship space inside. All barrier removal recommendations were coordinated with the Maine Historic Preservation Commission.

Union Hall, Searsport, Maine

Plan review & recommendations for the renovation & incorporation of barrier-free design into the historic Union Hall in Searsport, Maine; used by the town for office space and town functions.

Perkins Cove Pedestrian Bridge, Ogunquit, Maine

Accessibility consultation services in support of the development of a Town ordinance that establishes a local historic district; the impetus behind the ordinance being the protection of the pedestrian bridge at Perkins Cove from demolition and re-development.

Cary Library, Houlton, Maine

Accessibility Consultation for Brockway Associates of Houlton, Maine, primary consultants to the Cary Library renovations. Services included report and plan(s) review, guidance, and recommendations to improve accessibility at the existing national register listed facility.

Catherine Morrill Day Nursery, Portland, Maine

Accessibility evaluation and consultation for the existing Catherine Morrill Day Nursery facility including playground and play structure(s) access. The site and structure are located within a local historic district of Portland, Maine.

Dr. Brenda Sexton Offices, Yarmouth, Maine

Limited scope accessibility consultation services for first floor access to medical service provider's offices located within the Town of Yarmouth historic district on East Elm Street. Services included professional office space evaluation, ramp access design for accessible entry, and site re-design to accommodate accessible parking near the new entrance.

First Congregational Church, Yarmouth, Maine

Accessibility evaluation and consulting services for the existing First Congregational Church, on Main Street in Yarmouth, Maine. Services included the survey and evaluation of existing conditions and review of proposed renovations to exterior and interior spaces of the church for inclusion in proposed contract work and for consideration in the phasing of construction.
