Access Design Consultations
The following is a list of completed or ongoing Alpha One Access Design Consultations for state government agencies:
ME Code Enforcement Training and Certification Program Workshops, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000
Developed curriculum and presented a series of statewide full-day workshops to 250 code enforcement officials and building inspectors on accessibility related regulations and design standards that apply to project design and construction in the State of Maine. Topics covered include enforcement policy and newly enacted Maine accessibility regulations. Other topics presented included ADA Title 2 requirements affecting Maine municipalities, new NFPA-101 changes that affect accessibility, and recent / upcoming regulatory changes to the ADA that affect Maine accessibility regulations. The workshops are designed to train code enforcement officials in accessibility related regulations as part of the mandatory statewide training and certification program developed by the Maine State Planning Office. A product of the workshops is the Municipal CEO Training and Certification Manual for Accessibility Standards and Requirements produced by Alpha One in 19'96 and revised in 19'99.
State of Maine State Parks, 1986 and 1996
Evaluation and recommendations for barrier removal at all State of Maine State Park facilities. Surveys and recommendations were documented in the form of a report to the State of Maine Department of Conservation, Parks and Recreation Division in 1986. Assisted in on-site inspections and evaluations for Stevens Morton Rose and Thompson in 1996 - 98 as consultants to Bureau of Parks and Lands in a similar exercise to document outstanding barriers to accessibility yet to be corrected. Consulted with Bureau of Parks and Lands on presenting documented information on an accessible web-site that is continuously updated as improvements are completed at each State Park. The web site will also be printable for hard copy.
State House Renovations, Augusta, Maine
On-site consultation for proposed modifications to House chambers to accommodate wheelchair access to speaker's platform. Plan review and recommendations for overall State House renovations.
Maine State Housing Authority Home Offices, Augusta, Maine
Full existing conditions accessibility survey and evaluation services of the new four (4) story MSHA Home Office Structure on Water Street, Augusta, Maine.
Maine State Housing Authority - Home Retro Program, 2000
Administration and Technical execution of the Home Retro grant program. Grants of a maximum of $15,000 are awarded to qualifying homeowners with disabilities to upgrade there homes. Modifications must directly improve access and independent living opportunities at home.
Maine State Housing Authority - EAGL Program, 1990
The nationally recognized EAGL program, was created by Alpha One and the Maine State Housing Authority. It enabled 100 low-income home-owners with disabilities to make structural changes which improved their independence and quality of life.
Maine State Fire Marshal's Office
On-going consultations for "Barrier-Free" and NFPA-101 Life Safety construction permits through the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office. Consultations are with permit applicants seeking regulatory approvals and project construction permits.
