The
Alpha One Benefit Specialist Team
All Benefit
Specialist on the Alpha One team have been extensively trained
in the impact of work on Social Security, MaineCare, Medicare
and other state and federal benefit programs. Each Benefit
Specialist has completed the Cornell University certificate
program in Benefits Planning, Assistance and Outreach.
Alpha
One provides benefit planning services out of our two locations,
South Portland and Bangor.
Zahira
Ames-DuVall
Zahira
came to Alpha One with ten years experience as a leader of
a grassroots advocacy organization. Through this experience,
she gained a breadth of knowledge of state and federal programs
designed for persons with disabilities. She served on the
Governor’s Mental Health Task force in 1996. In 1998,
she received the Lighthouse award for her commitment to improving
the lives of Maine’s citizens with disabilities. Zahira
holds baccalaureate degrees form the University of New Hampshire
and the University of Southern Maine. She is a wife and mother
who enjoys the arts and gardening. Zahira is a person with
a disability.
Danell
Libby
Danell
came to Alpha One with nine years experience working for the
Department of Defense in Richmond VA. She worked as an Administrative
Assistant and Graphics Specialist. She chaired the Disabled
Employee Advisory Committee for eight years. Danell attended
Trident College in South Carolina. Danell traveled to Switzerland
in January 2003 with the Belfast Curling Club. Danell is a
person with a disability.
Gary
McLaughlin
Gary came
to Alpha One with seven years experience as a Regional Manager
of MILS, Maine Independent Living Services. He gained a breadth
of knowledge and experience with the Social Security Administration
programs as a Contact Representative in the Boston area. Gary
served on the Kim Wallace Equipment Loan board (now mPower)
for seven years. Gary holds a baccalaureate degree in Liberal
Arts from Ricker College. He is a father, who enjoys hiking,
traveling, fishing and camping. Gary is a person with a disability.
